The wives of Minnesota Twins players held a Birthday Bag Blitz assembly party to prepare gifts for children facing homelessness and poverty in the Twin Cities area.

The Twins players and their wives assembled an impressive 400 colorful birthday bags—100 more than they did at last year’s event! The group then distributed 200 bags to Neighborhood House in St. Paul, 150 to Anna Marie’s Alliance in St. Cloud, and 50 to Mary’s Place in Minneapolis.

Thanks to the players and their wives, parents who may not otherwise be able to give their children birthday gifts this year will be able to provide them memorable, special presents. We’re so grateful to the Twins and their wives for contributing to our cause!

November 1st, 2015 | Birthdays, Children, Donations, Giving, Kids, Minnesota Twins

gtmd15-emailGive to the Max Day is November 12. Instead of waiting, you can now schedule a donation in advance!

On Give to the Max Day Thursday, November 12, 2015, thousands of Minnesota nonprofits will come together to raise millions of dollars in just 24 hours. We know that many will be asking you for a donation this month and that 24 hours is a pretty small window. That’s why we’re excited about a feature that allows you to schedule your donation to Cheerful Givers in advance. All donations will be used to provide toy-filled birthday gift bags for kids living in poverty on their birthday. Just go to our GiveMN.org donation page to schedule your gift. Your donation will be processed automatically at 12 a.m. on November 12.

Your Donation Goes Further on Give to the Max Day

Here’s how:

  • We have some matching funds to double your donation!
  • Every hour an individual donor will be randomly chosen by GiveMN.org to win a “Golden Ticket.” An additional $1,000 will be given to the charity that received the original donation. Pre-scheduled donations will be eligible for this as well.
  • Finally at the end of the day, GiveMN.org will randomly choose one donor and that charity will receive $10,000. So your donation of $10 or more could be multiplied by a thousand!

Thank you for giving to the max today!

Thank you, Cheerful Givers

Minnesota Twins Brian Duensing, Chris Herrmann, and Joe Mauer hosted our 6th annual “Cheerful Givers Breakfast with the Minnesota Twins” on Aug. 29th at the Chart House Restaurant, where more than $35,000 was raised to provide birthday gifts for less fortunate children.  Guests enjoyed a pancake breakfast, asking questions of the players, participating in prize drawings for unique Twins items as well as a live auction followed by player autographs and photos.

IMG_4584Special guests included Rachel Latuff, Miss Minnesota 2015, and Rachel Weyandt, Minnesota’s Outstanding Teen 2015.

One highlight of the event was a short presentation by Teresa Haliburton, mother of Jordan, who is involved in one of the special education programs where the majority of our birthday bags are assembled.  Guests learned about the impact of Cheerful Givers not only on the recipients of birthday bags but on the givers as well.

Thanks to sponsors:  Microsoft, Thrivent Financial Stonebridge Group, Minnesota Twins Wives, Cheerful Givers Supporters, and three former Minnesota Twin families (Cuddyers, Morneaus & Thomes) who couldn’t attend, but allowed us to invite some of our special education students, parents and teachers.

Special thanks to Twins wives, Lisa Duensing, Shelby Herrmann, and Maddie Mauer for help in planning this event along with our fantastic volunteers!

DSC02800Students in the Bridges Transition Program in Andover, Minnesota have been helping to fill birthday bags for a number of years.  Recently they conducted a coin drive, and today presented Cheerful Givers with a check for $645.63.

Many students said they were baseball fans, so to honor a former Minnesota Twin and Cheerful Givers supporter on his birthday, they sang Happy Birthday to Michael Cuddyer after watching a short video he created for Cheerful Givers.

Many thanks to all of the amazing students and teachers!  And a very Happy Birthday to Michael Cuddyer!!

Brian Duensing & Volunteers

Congratulations to Minnesota Twins pitcher, Brian Duensing, the recipient of the 2014 Carl R Pohlad Award for Community Service.

Minnesota Twins Executive Director,  Bryan Donaldson commented “Each year the Twins Community Fund Board of Directors recognize one player who exemplifies the community giving spirit of the Twins’ late owner, Carl Pohlad.  Brian Duensing  is the recipient of this award for 2014 because of his and his wife Lisa’s work with Cheerful Givers and other worthy causes.  The winner is able to direct a $5,000 grant to the charity of their choice, and Brian chose  Cheerful Givers.”

Many thanks to the Duensings for their tremendous support of our mission!
