December 11th, 2009 | Birthdays, Children, Donations, Family, Holidays, Kids
This year many people are rethinking their holiday gift giving and want to do something to reach out to those who are really struggling. One way to do that is with a Cheerful Givers certificate which you can print after you make any size donation. Many parents today often spend $100 on one holiday gift for their child which lasts a short while. Yet that same $100 could provide toy-filled birthday gift bags for ten economically disadvantaged children. In addition, the parents giving the gift are afforded a much-needed sense of dignity, value and hope. It communicates that the parent cares and that the community cares. You can donate now!

Received the following note from Gloria Johnson, Workforce Office Coordinator at Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis.
“We decided to do a Birthday Bag Blitz at our annual Team Building Day. We had a great time putting the bags together. It made our day very special. A few days later, 3 of us took the bags to Sharing and Caring Hands and got to meet Mary Jo Copland and take a tour of the complex. Mary Jo said she had been praying for something to give the children and then we showed up with our bags. It was a heartwarming and eye opening experience. I am sure our team will want to do this again. Thanks for the great idea.”

Thanks to our many volunteers, donors and supporters, 18,654 less fortunate children have been able to celebrate their birthday this year with a gift from their parents. We know that not one of these children would feel special if it weren’t for people like you. While our goal is to reach 50,000 kids in 2009, we wanted to take a moment to say thanks for the difference you have made!

“Bears2Go.com is pleased to support Cheerful Givers each year with donations of stuffed animals and outfits because our two missions are one, and that is to put a smaile on as many children’s faces in life as we can” writes Janine Eastman from White Plains, NY. She adds “It’s important to remember, despite how tough the times may be, that it is the pure hope, love and joy that can only be found in children that makes life worth living!”
What a great message and donation.

“Birthdays should make children happier” wrote Natasha Kravchenko from Educational Toys Planet. “They should boost their self-esteem and confidence. We sincerely think that every child deserves a birthday present, and Cheerful Givers has such a wonderful idea to make children feel special.”
That’s why Educational Toys Planet showed their support with a donation of some wonderful toys about which they say “We are really proud that with our toys children will become not only happier, but smarter, too.”

July 6th, 2009 | Birthdays, Children, Donations, Kids
It wasn’t the kids that came up with the idea of a garage sale, it was our mom. It was also our mom’s idea of giving all our profits to charities. We couldn’t decide on just one so, in the end, we gave half to Cheerful Givers and half to the Humane Society.
Part of the reason we decided to donate our garage sale money to Cheerful Givers was because our aunt Mary volunteers with them and we liked what the organization does. We were thinking about how happy we are on our birthdays when we get birthday presents and then how happy we’d be if we knew someone had taken the time to donate money so we could get at least one present. An article now appearing in the Minneapolis Examiner is helping to spread the word about Cheerful Givers and how families or groups can get involved by filling birthday gift bags.
“Teaching some individuals to give and others to receive” is also an important part of what we’re doing.
