Have you donated to our Social Summer Fundraiser? Did you take advantage of the one-click features to spread the word on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace? If so, we thank you.
Another fantastic idea comes from one of our donors (her tweet is shown to the right). She not only promoted the campaign to her Twitter followers, but came up with a clever way to justify the cost.
Have you used any creative ways to support us or another nonprofit via social media? We’d love to hear about it.

It’s been just over one week since we launched the Social Summer Fundraiser, our first online-only campaign. We’ve raised a quarter of our goal so far and have been incredibly pleased with the initial response from fans and supporters. If you have been meaning to donate and just haven’t gotten around to it, this is the perfect opportunity.
We’d need your help to spread the word about the fundraiser to your friends, especially those on social networks like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. We’ve made it easy to do this via links and buttons already encoded with your message of support and a link to the donation page. In a few clicks you can share this information with your network and help us continue to provide birthday bags for children in need.

The Social Summer Fundraiser, our first online-only fundraiser, takes place August 1-31, 2009. The goal of this campaign is to raise funds strictly through the power of social media.
We need your help to spread the word across social networks you belong to. We even have simple links already set up to promote it on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and your own website or blog.

April 8th, 2009 | Birthdays, Book, Funding, News, Press
In today’s paper, USA Today calls it a “book to bridge any generation gap.” Cheerful Givers is pleased to be included as a “fan and supporter” in this wonderful book along with Rawlings, Louisville Slugger and some great professional baseball players.
The book follows an underprivileged group of kids whose lack of equipment doesn’t hamper their love of baseball. This wonderfully illustrated, hard-cover book, which makes a great gift for kids of all ages, can be purchased for $15.95 at www.agloveoftheirown.com, and if you select Cheerful Givers (code CHG 132), a portion of the proceeds will help us to provide toy-filled birthday gift bags for less fortunate kids.

We are excited to be one of five charities selected to compete for a $10,000 grant to be presented by the Minnesota Timberwolves at their basketball game on April 15. That money can go a long way to helping us provide toy-filled birthday gift bags to food shelves and shelters so that parents living in poverty can give their children birthday gifts.
We need to spread the word to get thousands of people voting for us. You can vote once every day from April 1-13
It’s quick and easy to vote:
- Go to the timberwolves.com/community
- Scroll down until you see the “Click here to vote” box, click it
- Cast your vote for Cheerful Givers

Dakota Electric Association named Cheerful Givers as the local 2008 Touchstone Energy Community Award winner. “As a member-owned cooperative, Dakota Electric values the local community,” said Greg Miller, Dakota Electric’s president and chief executive officer. “The Touchstone Energy Community Award provides a way for us to honor just a few of the many people and organizations that do so much for our local communities.”
Cheerful Givers award application will be submitted for consideration in the statewide Minnesota Touchstone Energy Community Award. The statewide award recipient will be selected from local award winners throughout Minnesota. The winner will receive $1,000 for their non-profit community project. The Minnesota Touchstone Energy Community Award will be announced in March, during the Minnesota Rural Electric Association’s annual meeting in St. Paul.
