L’Oreal Paris has awarded me the prestigious honor of Women Of Worth, 2010 for my volunteer efforts with Cheerful Givers.
As Founder, I have had the privilege of working with thousands of volunteers over the years who, like me, believe that all children are special and deserve to be recognized on their birthday with a gift from their parents. That’s why Cheerful Givers provides toy-filled birthday gift bags for economically disadvantaged families.
As a recipient, Cheerful Givers has been awarded $5,000.00. I’m thrilled about this amazing recognition and the grant which is so helpful for our charity.
Now Cheerful Givers has the opportunity of winning an additional $25,000. There will be a public online vote for the National Women of Worth from Nov. 8-24. I am one of ten women competing for this award, and the winner will be determined by the greatest number of votes.
Winning an additional $25,000 donation would mean that we could reach thousands more kids with birthday gifts which would also have a positive impact on their self-esteem. Results will be announced on December 10.

Michael Cuddyer and Jesse Crain of the Minnesota Twins hosted a pancake breakfast on Sept. 20th, answered fans questions and announced 20 prize drawing winners at this Cheerful Givers fundraiser. Our board of directors shared the Cheerful Givers story with the 128 guests followed by Claudia Cuddyer and Becky Crain explaining why the Minnesota Twins Wives have chosen to support our cause. A fun finale had Michael Cuddyer as auctioneer for a bat which he had signed by all Twins players for this event and which was won by Josh Ruppert.
Thanks to the Southern Dakota County and Central Minneapolis Chapters of Thrivent Financial for providing some matching funds.

Following the event, we heard from some of those who attended with comments such as Matt who said “ I attended this event as a wedding gift from my soon to be wife. It was an experience I will never forget.”
Kathryn Hauser seemed to capture it all beautifully — “This was the greatest idea! Hope you have another one like it in the future! Giving children the gift of excitement on their birthday is irreplaceable. For our own MN Twins, Jesse Crain and Michael Cuddyer to get involved is brilliant. They are able to raise money from fans in ways Cheerful Givers couldn’t alone, and I, myself, was more than happy to get involved. Big thanks to Michael and Jesse for gracing us with their presence, and for being such humble and inspirational idols.”
NOTE: We have some additional autographed wavers, homer hankies and baseball cards which we will send as a thank you for any additional $50 donations made by 10/15 at http://www.cheerfulgivers.org/give/ Feel free to forward to friends.

Minneapolis Star Tribune, June 23
The cold and rain didn’t keep 100 Cheerful Givers fans from cheering on the Minnesota Twins at Target Field on June 12. Tickets to the game were sold as a fundraiser to help the charity provide toy-filled birthday gift bags for less fortunate children in Minnesota.
The group also enjoyed wavers featuring right fielder Michael Cuddyer, which were provided by Animal Fair/Sports & Entertrainment.

The Hilger Philanthropist Club held their fourth annual “Best of Hilger” Talent Show on March 11th. The show is held every year to raise money for the Chattanooga Cheerful Givers pilot program which serves the Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Northwest Georgia area. Last year’s theme for the show was New York City, this year’s was “Light and Color.” The stage was decorated with brightly colored panels, illuminated by colored lights, bearing resemblance to a Rubik’s cube.
This year, the show was conducted under new leadership. Virginia Rickard, 17, former club Vice President, now President, who grabbed the reins to ensure that everything fell into place. Speaking about her first time running the show, Virginia says, “It was very different to be the head coordinator of the talent show. I didn’t expect there to be nearly as many details to take care of!” Continue reading »

We were very pleased to receive a donation of $1,500 from the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation to support our birthday bag gift program. Matt Oldani, Foundation Bear, writes “We are thrilled to be able to partner with you to help children.”
Each year the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation continues to advance its mission of improving communities and impacting lives through meaningful philanthropic programs that support children, families, animals and the environment. We are proud to be one of their “best friends.”

Cheerful Givers was proud to be one of the 3,141 nonprofits participating in Give to the Max Day yesterday. In addition, we were featured on Cities97 in an on-air interview about the event.
We’re pleased to announce that our pre-match total was $2,666!
We couldn’t have done it without the generous support of our donors. Thank you all for helping us continue putting birthday smiles on the faces of underprivileged children in the year ahead.
