The Great Minnesota Birthday Party Is Coming!

On Saturday, March 31st from 1-3 pm, Cheerful Givers will once again host “The Great Minnesota Birthday Party” in Sear’s Court at the Mall of America.

We will be celebrating reaching our milestone of Half a Million Kids Receiving Birthday Bags since our organization began. We plan to have special guests fill the 500,000^th birthday bag at the event, and the Governor is proclaiming it “Cheerful Givers Day” throughout Minnesota.

We will have a number of interactive elements this year that allows visitors to experience the Birthday Party in a way that resonates with each of them. The design will invite the passer-by to stop and engage while floor visuals grow throughout the event. Included will be a Join the Party opportunity, scavenger hunt, Knowledge Quest informational kiosks, Build a Birthday Bag Lego Station and many prize drawings.

It’s a free event with donations encouraged. All are welcome!

Give to the Max Day, the “Great Minnesota Give Together,” is a day for Minnesotans to come together to raise as much money as possible for nonprofits in 24 hours – starting at midnight on November 16 through midnight on November 17.

Of course we’d love you to donate so we can continue to help children in need celebrate their birthday. But you can also help in other ways.

We’ve created a central page on our website explaining what GTMD is and how to donate. At the bottom of this page are various buttons to share via social networks, email, like the page on Facebook and +1 it on Google+. Using these buttons to share will increase the totals displayed for each type of sharing and encourage others to do the same. Use all of them if you like then keep reading for more ways to use social media to help.

Mention us on Facebook
Follow these instructions to use the Facebook “mention” function from your personal page.

Start by visiting the Cheerful Givers Facebook page
Click on the “like” button at the top if you’re not already a fan of our page.
Now, you can return to your Facebook page and begin posting.
To “mention” Cheerful Govers, simply begin typing your message. When you’re ready to mention us, type the @ symbol and Facebook will prompt you to type in the name of a friend or page like Cheerful Givers.
Once you finish the post, you’ll notice that Cheerful Givers appears in light blue font. This means it is hyperlinked to the GiveMN Facebook page. And, since you used the @ symbol, the post appears on the Cheerful Givers page as well.

Get Ready for the “Great Minnesota Give Together”

In the next few weeks your inbox will probably be filled with requests to “Give To The Max” on Nov. 16. Last year, $10 million dollars was raised for Minnesota nonprofits by 42,624 online donors during this annual day of charitable giving. So how will you decide where to give your hard-earned dollars? Might be a time to prioritize your giving habits. Some families let their kids help decide what charities they would like to support as a way of teaching them about the value of sharing with those who are less fortunate. Cheerful Givers, which provides birthday gifts for kids in Minnesota who don’t get to celebrate their birthday, is just one example of several thousand nonprofits who need your help.

To encourage donations throughout the day, an individual donor will be randomly chosen every hour by GiveMN.org to win a “Golden Ticket.” An additional $1,000 will be given to the charity that received the original donation, and one name will be randomly drawn to win a $10,000 golden ticket.

Local musician, Tim Mahoney, has written a song to be unveiled on this day whose title sums it all up – “Just Give.”
