We tried, but we didn’t win. The CTK Foundation chose the poem submitted by the Family Justice Center in New York to receive a $10,000 grant with an original song to be written and performed by the Los Lonely Boys. Over 700 nonprofits submitted original poems.

Our submission:
Birthdays and poverty are not a good pair,
You may not understand unless you’ve been there.

Many parents only wish on their child’s birthday,
Is to make it special in some small way.

That’s why Cheerful Givers came to be,
Providing toy-filled gift bags anonymously.

More than a birthday bag, it’s more self-esteem,
That is the heart and soul of Cheerful Givers’ dream.
